June favourites!
I know we're now midway into July, but I've seen other people on their blogs do this stuff, and I thought I'd share what I enjoyed most in the month of June!
My (slightly grubby) copy of Modern Love
I'm a few years late to the party on this one, but thanks to my newfound love of Aziz Ansari and Master of None, I'll devour anything this man puts out. While I wait for season 2 to come out, his voice is just as enjoyable in the brilliantly witty, extremely thoughtful book on love in the modern era. Mum finished it while we were in Charleston, so I borrowed her copy, and have been enjoying every page.
O.J.: Made in America
Wanting to be culturally relevant, and both big fans of sports in general, Harris and I plunged ourselves into ESPN's OJ: Made in America documentary. Far from being just a look at the athlete and if he did it, the first three episodes are dedicated to delving deep into his personal history, race in America, Los Angeles, the police, and all the factors that came together to produce the most famous American ever. It's over 8 hours long, start to finish, but it's utterly fascinating, and well worth getting stuck into.
Luther
Since finishing both Sherlock and Peaky Blinders, I've been searching for a new critically acclaimed British drama to fill the void these two decadently good shows have left in my television watching life. Lia and I watched Idris Elba playing a subtle badass for the first three seasons of The Wire, so watching this suave man playing a show's titular character seemed like a good idea. I'm midway through the second season and am not disappointed. I definitely recommend!
I'm someone who prides myself on my music taste, and you know something's good when the best talents in music seem to agree. Beyonce gave him his own song on Lemonade, Frank Ocean helped with his new album, and Kanye was originally going to do a verse on it. There may not be good politicians, but there is some good music coming out of the UK. James Blake has one of the most unique sounds, and while he may be a little dreary for summer walks, his new album is a little lighter, and a lot longer. So many more good sounds for your ears!
I don't like FoMu because it's vegan. I like it in spite of that.
I don't like coconut, but I do like ice cream, and it turns out I do like coconut based ice cream. Fomu opened a delightful small store just a few steps from Lia's front door, and we've already gorged ourselves on enough Blueberry Shortbread ice cream to last most weak people a lifetime. Only issue is it's a seasonal flavour. But that's what we have a freezer in our new apartment for: stockpiling.
I'd wanted a portable speaker for a while now, not least so we could bump some tunes while sitting on the deck out the back of our apartment. I did a little googling, and was informed by various sources this was the best I was going to get for my price range, even if it was at the top of it. The 360 sound is awesome for sitting outdoors, and it can reach unbelievable (and unbearable) volumes. For someone as into music as I am
