I'm starting to think the PNW has the best beaches around
I've talked before about how Seattle' beaches are one of my favorite parts of life here. That within minutes of being deep in a cool city, you can find yourself on a beach. And not just any beach either, a boring sandy one with sun. Nah, here in Seattle, they're beautiful, lined with coniferous forests, and dotted with grasses and driftwood that give the whole scene so much more character.
Lia and I took advantage of one of what we were sure was going to be the last sunny days of the year — before the long grey night that everyone keeps warning us about — and took a trip to one of the parks we'd visited before, Discovery Park. With a small picnic of some locally made kettle chips, some farmer's market apples, and my new (very generous hand-me-down birthday present from my Dad) Barbour jacket, we spent an afternoon balancing on dead trees, lazing on rocky shores, and observing some people's unfiltered love for their dogs.
Lia had visited Discovery Beach with a friend she went to high school with who now lives out in Seattle the first time we visited the city a few years ago. At the time I thought that as a beachhead with a lighthouse and everything it must be so remote, but it was only a 15 minute drive. Our uber dropped us off right on the beach!
Other people had had a similar ideas to us, so we were far from the only people on the beach. There were some annoying kids, some parents trying to take photos of their kids enjoying the sunshine, but most interestingly, a few people taking photos of their small dogs enjoying the sun. Their "kids", I suppose.
Lia commandeered my camera for most of the afternoon, so there were an unusual amount of photos of me taken. But I was the one doing the editing, so hah!
We did underestimate just how big Discovery Park was, after we'd driven through it so quickly on our way in, and decided to try and walk to the edge. We also decided to take a very steep path, which made us very hot and sweaty despite the chillier air.
The views were pretty though.
